Chief Abdulkerim Aliyu, the district head of Ofugo at Opulega in the Ankpa Local Government Area of Kogi State, has been abucted by some yet-to-be-identified gunmen.
The suspected kidnappers, who kidnapped Aliyu at around 7:30pm on Saturday when they invaded his palace and whisked him away, have demanded the sum of N5million ransom, Tribune reports.
Locals of the district said that the kidnappers came to the district head’s house, disguised as police officers from Kogi State Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department, Lokoja, and took him away in his Lexus Jeep for an undisclosed interview at their headquarters.
A resident of the district, Danladi Jibo, was quoted as saying, “His Lexus jeep was seen parked around Ikanekpo, a village before Opulega on Anyigba – Ankpa road on Sunday.
“That was when it dawned on us that the district head was kidnapped and not under arrest.
“His kidnappers have put a call to the members of his family, demanding N5 million ransom.”
However, as at the time of filing this report, the Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP William Aya, has not made official confirmation of Aliyu’s abduction nor responded to inquiries on the incident.
