Goodluck Jonathan, a former President of Nigeria, has called on the National Assembly to enact a law that would end off-season elections in Nigeria.
Jonathan stated this on Saturday in an interview with reporters after casting his vote in the ongoing governorship election in Otuoke, Bayelsa State.
He explained that if the country continues with the off-season election as contained in the Nigerian constitution, a time may come when even the presidential election would be off-season.
He said, “I get worried about off-season elections. I am appealing to the National Assembly that we need to block these off-season elections.
“This is not the global best practice. If we continue with these off-season elections, because of our law, it will come to a time when even a presidential election will be off-season”.
