Siminalayi Fubara, the Rivers State Governor, has finally broken his silence amid the political tension in the state.
In a video posted on his official X handle on Friday, Fubara promised to continue protecting the interests of the people of Rivers State.
He also expressed gratitude to the people of the state, and promised to run an inclusive government that upholds the principles of justice and fairness to everyone.
The video message is coming against the backdrop of escalating political tension in Rivers State.
Several members of Fubara’s cabinet have resigned in the last two days, a development that is linked to the governor’s face-off with his predecessor, Federal Capital Terrritory, FCT, minister, Nyesom Wike.
Also, 27 members of the state assembly defected from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Following the defection of the lawmakers, the Rivers State Government ordered the demolition of the Assembly Complex.
The government cited the need to build a suitable structure after an “arson attack” that occurred at the Assembly Complex on October 29.
