Aurelio de Laurentiis, the Napoli president, has explained that selling the club’s talismanic striker, Victor Osimhen will be more emotional than financial.
Osimhen could leave the Partenopei this summer with a release clause of around €120-130m reportedly inserted in the new contract he signed last December.
Premier League giants, Chelsea and Arsenal as well as Ligue 1 champions, Paris Saint-Germain are circling around the forward.
De Laurentiis admitted it will be difficult to see the Nigeria international leave the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium after four impressive seasons.
“Osimhen has a release clause. That’s a lot of money. Money is Napoli’s latest problem,” De Laurentiis said at the FT’s Football Business Summit:
“We have always made good purchases and will continue to do so in the future.
“The problem is only sentimental, because every time a player leaves it’s like saying goodbye to a child, but at the same time you’re happy even when he achieves success elsewhere.”
The Nigeria international has scored 11 goals in 15 league appearances for the reigning Serie A champions this season.
