The Socioeconomic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has initiated legal proceedings against Senate President Godswill Akpabio for the failure to recall Senator Abdul Ningi of Bauchi Central.
SERAP also sued Akpabio over his inability to refer the budget padding allegation to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, for prosecution.
Ningi had raised an alarm that N3.7 trillion was untraceable in the 2024 budget.
His allegation led to a three-month suspension by the senate following his inability to substantiate the budget padding allegation.
Following his suspension, activist lawyer, Femi Falana had charged the Senate to reinstate Ningi, a demand that has not been met.
However, SERAP posted on X: “BREAKING: We’ve sued the Senate President, Mr Godswill Akpabio over the failure to recall whistleblower Abdul Ningi, and to refer the alleged N3.7 trillion budget padding to the EFCC and ICPC for investigation and prosecution.”
