Why Ministry Of Livestock Has Not Taken Off – Abubakar Kyari

Posted by Thandiubani on Thu 25th Jul, 2024 - tori.ng

Abubakar Kyari said President Tinubu was committed to harnessing the opportunities in the livestock sector.

The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari has given explanation why the Ministry of Livestock Development has not taken off yet.

According to him, the reason is because the president is waiting for the report from the committee he setup to be submitted.

Kyari said this on Wednesday while speaking with State House Correspondents after a meeting between the Livestock Committee co-chairman, Attahiru Jega and President Tinubu.

The Minister of Agriculture said the Ministry of Livestock Development would take off as soon as the President receives report from the Jega-led committee.

“Mr. President has expressed his excitement, has expressed his anxiety and he is very anxious for this thing to take off. You are all aware that a new ministry has been created by Mr president and he is waiting for the report so that the Ministry of Livestock can take off immediately after the report has been submitted by the committee,” Kyari said.

He added that he was confident that the Livestock Committee would submit report that would provide results and solutions in the livestock industry.

“I’m sure and I’m happy with full confidence that the report will be something that we would see results and solutions, even in the mid-term and long term to what we see in the livestock industry now,” he added.

On his part, Attahiru Jega said the job of the committee is difficult. He assured that if the committee’s report is successfully implemented, it would improve the tremendous opportunities in the livestock sector.

Attahiru Jega said, “We have received great encouragement from Mr. President given his recognition that if we get this thing right, we will add tremendous value to so many things in our country.

“The challenges are many. I will not say it is not going to be difficult, it will be difficult but it is not impossible to actually get it right and I know that all the members of the committee are focused to ensure that we get this thing right.

“So Nigerians should expect from our committee recommendations that if successfully implemented could add tremendous value in terms of achieving those defined motives of opening up opportunities in the livestock sector and help to mitigate crises which are associated with this sector.”
