Gov Fubara Sets Up Panel To Investigate LG Secretariat Burning, Violence In Rivers State

The constitution of a Judicial panel was made known in a statement on Tuesday by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Tammy Wenike Danagogo.

Gov Sim Fubara has set up a Judicial Commission of Inquiry into the arson, killing and destruction of property at some Local Government Council headquarters in Rivers state..

Recall that some yet-to-be identified hoodlums had on Monday attacked some LGA secretariat burning and attacking staff onsight.

The violence came barely 24 hours after the swearing-in of new council bosses following Saturday’s election.

The constitution of a Judicial panel was made known in a statement on Tuesday by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Tammy Wenike Danagogo.

He disclosed that members of the panel will be sworn in today by 4 pm.

The statement read: “JUDICIAL COMMISSION OF INQUIRY INTO THE ARSON, KILLINGS, AND WANTON DESTRUCTION OF PROPERTY AT SOME LOCAL GOVERNMENT COUNCIL HEADQUARTERS WHICH OCCURRED ON OR ABOUT MONDAY, OCTOBER 7, 2024

“Pursuant to Section 2(1) of the Commissions of Inquiry Law, Cap 30, Laws of Rivers State of Nigeria, 1999, His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS, Governor of Rivers State, has approved the Setting-up of a Judicial Commission of Inquiry into the arson, killings, and wanton destruction of property at some Local Government Council Headquarters which occurred on or about Monday, October 7, 2024.

Members of the Commission are:

(1) Hon. Justice I.R. Minakiri – Chairman

(2) Barr. Felicia Nwoke – Member

(3) Prof. Blessing Didia – Member

(4) Sir Samuel Egbe – Member

(5) Venerable Alex Usifor – Member

(6) Barr. Uzor Ikenga – Counsel to the Commission

(7) Mrs. Inyingi Brown – Secretary

“Members of the Commission will be sworn-in today, Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at the Executive Council Chambers, Government House, Port Harcourt at 4 p.m.

“They are to be seated by 3.30 p.m.”
