NANS Demands Justice For LASU Graduate Allegedly Killed By Lagos Cleric

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Southwest (Zone D) has called for a thorough and transparent investigation into the brutal killing of Adedamola Quadri Ogunbode, a 28-year-old recent graduate of Lagos State University (LASU).

Quadri was allegedly murdered by a self-proclaimed prophet in Ojo, Lagos State, for ritual purposes.

On Sunday, SaharaReporters reported that Lagos-based pastor of the Celestial Church of Christ (CCC), identified as Superintendent Evangelist Whepetoji Babaniyeh, had been arrested in connection with Quadri’s disappearance.

SaharaReporters learnt that the cleric leads the Celestial Church of Christ, Ileri Oluwa Parish, Lagos State University (LASU) 2.

Quadri was declared missing on January 16, 2025.

He had obtained his degree from the Political Science Education Department of LASU in 2024 and was running his private business, Horlar Edu Consultancy, on the LASU campus before his disappearance.

Speaking to SaharaReporters, a family source noted that Quadri was last seen near the church.

Meanwhile, there are reports that his mutilated body was later discovered buried within the compound of a well-known church in the area.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Public Relations Officer of NANS Southwest, Comrade Kuku Isaiah Eromidayo, the student body condemned the killing, describing it as another example of the growing security threats faced by students and young Nigerians.

The association urged the Lagos State Government, security agencies, and law enforcement authorities to ensure swift justice for the slain graduate and to take concrete steps to prevent such incidents in the future.

“No student should have to live in fear or lose their life due to the failure of the government to provide adequate security,” the statement read.

NANS Southwest outlined key demands, including: Swift Justice for Adedamola – A full and transparent investigation to hold all culprits accountable.

"Increased Security in Student Communities – Deployment of more security personnel around student hostels, campuses, and crime-prone areas.

"Regulation of Religious Institutions – Stricter oversight to prevent criminals from using religion as a cover for illegal activities.

"Collaboration Between Students and Security Agencies – A structured engagement between student leaders, law enforcement, and school authorities to enhance proactive security measures."

The association warned that failure to act swiftly could lead to widespread student protests across the Southwest to demand their right to safety.

“NANS Zone D stands in solidarity with the family of Adedamola Ogunbode and the entire LASU community. We will not rest until justice is served and security is strengthened for all Nigerian students,” the statement added.

The group also launched a social media campaign with hashtags #JusticeForAdedamola, #SecurityForStudents, and #EnoughIsEnough, urging Nigerians to join their call for action.
