A Nigerian lady has taken to the X platform to narrate how she had to change her name after she was rejected by her father's tribe.
She spoke about her experience while reacting to the opinion that a child is from the father's place, not the father and mother's place of origin.
She shared that she saw herself as Yoruba and her name reflected this.
However, when her school singled her to represent the school in an event, the state refused to accept her as a representative because they discovered her mother is Igbo.
She said they eventually chose a student from a different South West State to represent the school, rather than choose her whose father is from the state hosting the event.
She explained that the incident made her change her middle name to an Igbo name to reflect her heritage.
She concluded her post, writing: "I'm only family to those who see me as family."
