Activist and lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, has claimed that several prominent political figures — including Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, Acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Umar Damagum, PDP National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu, Labour Party National Chairman Julius Abure, and factional Chairman Lamidi Apapa — may be contemplating a defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Adeyanju was reacting to the unveiling of ADC by the Opposition Coalition Group made up of imminent Nigerians.
Posting on X, Adeyanju wrote: “Damagun, SamDaddy, Makinde, Julius Abure, Lamidi Apapa and co will be wondering whether they should defect to ADC so they can continue the good job of Asiwaju.
“The coalition squad is mad! Everyone is at the unveiling. Very happy with the opposition leaders.”
Prominent Nigerians like former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Senate President David Mark, ex-Interior Minister, Rauf Aregbesola, former governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State among others met yesterday to adopt ADC as the official political party for the opposition.
During the meeting, Aregbesola emerged as ADC’s Interim National Secretary.
Despite initial setbacks, Atiku, Peter Obi of LP, El-Rufai, former Rivers State governor, Rotimi Amaechi; and other members of the coalition are at the Yar’Adua Centre for the official unveiling of ADC as the coalition’s official political party.
