The Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) overseeing the Mobile Police (MOPOL) at the Force Headquarters in Abuja has issued a strict directive to all MOPOL commanders at training and operational bases, warning against the deployment of officers to duty posts alone.

In a wireless message dated July 7, 2025, and marked DTO: 071433/07/2025, the AIG expressed “utmost dismay” over what he described as the unprofessional practice by some commanders who assign single officers to beats during shifts.

The message, which was sent to commanders at various MOPOL training and operational units — including Ende-Hills, Ila-Orangun, Gwoza, and MOPOL units 1 through 81 — emphasised that no beat assignment should involve fewer than two officers per shift.

“On no account should any MOPOL commander deploy less than two (2) personnel to any beat at each shift. Violation of this directive will be severely sanctioned,”
the message stated.

The communication was copied to the Department of Operations (DOPS) at Force Headquarters for awareness and enforcement.

All affected units were ordered to acknowledge receipt and ensure strict compliance.
