
Alhaji Aliyu Ibrahim Gaskiya, a prominent agrochemical dealer and CEO of Gaskiya Agrochemical, popularly known as “Alhaji Chemical,” has reportedly regained his freedom after over a month in captivity.
A relative of the businessman, who spoke to NupekoTV-Lafiagi on condition of anonymity, confirmed his release, allegedly following the payment of a ₦30 million ransom.
Alhaji Chemical was abducted from his residence in the Taiwo area of Lafiagi on June 29, 2025, in an incident that underscored the rising spate of kidnappings across Kwara North.
His release on July 30, 2025, has brought immense relief to his family and the wider community.
On Sunday, June 29, 2025, SaharaReporters reported that the Lafiagi community in the Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State had been thrown into panic following Alhaji Chemical’s abduction.
Eyewitness accounts said the attackers, who arrived on motorcycles, overpowered the local vigilantes guarding the area with superior firepower before whisking Alhaji Chemical away to an unknown destination.
Sources within the community confirmed that the assailants appeared to have specifically targeted the businessman, raising concerns that the operation was carefully planned.
The incident heightened fears among residents over the worsening security situation in Lafiagi and its environs.
In recent times, many Kwara residents have been calling on security agencies to ensure the security of lives and property amid worsening insecurity in the state.
