Kohen Daniel Sunday Onuoha, the Spiritual Leader of the Peace of Yahweh Synagogue and Founder of Eastern Judaism, paid a visit on Saturday to Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), at the Sokoto Correctional Facility.
Onuoha was accompanied by his wife and associates, representing the Jewish community in the old Eastern Region.
In a statement he personally signed, Onuoha said the visit symbolizes unwavering spiritual and moral support from the Peace of Yahweh Synagogue and other Jewish congregations.
The statement reads: “During the visit, Kohen Onuoha reaffirmed the congregation’s faith in divine intervention for the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
“He called on the global community, legal experts, and human rights organizations to critically examine the legality of Kanu’s continued detention and conviction, which he noted is based on a repealed law and questionable legal grounds.”
Onuoha emphasized that Kanu is not a terrorist, nor is IPOB a terrorist organization.
He said: “We all know who the real terrorists are, and the world knows too.”
According to him, Kanu’s “only so-called offense” was the peaceful exercise of the fundamental right to self-determination and the exposure of atrocities allegedly committed by the current leadership in collaboration with certain foreign interests and local elites.
He further stressed that verbal expressions or broadcasts, without credible evidence of violent acts, cannot lawfully justify the conviction or continued incarceration of an innocent man.
Consequently, he called for Kanu’s immediate and unconditional release in the interest of justice and the rule of law.
The statement added: “In addition, Kohen Onuoha extended his greetings to President Donald J. Trump, commending efforts by his administration to protect Christians in Nigeria through decisive actions.
“He noted that beyond Christian communities, Biafrans seeking their legitimate right to freedom continue to face marginalization, oppression, and violence. Kohen Onuoha called on President Trump to intensify international efforts to bring an end to these injustices, expressing confidence that history will remember such courage and leadership.
“In closing, Kohen Daniel Sunday Onuoha called on all Biafrans, freedom advocates, Jews, and human rights defenders who place their hope in Mazi Nnamdi Kanu to remain steadfast, resilient, and peaceful. He affirmed that the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is imperative and that justice, in due time, must prevail.”
