A 30-year-old school security official employed at Radiant Glory Academy in Umuichichi, Aba, Abia State, has been convicted and sentenced to one year imprisonment for s€xually ab¥sing a 10-year-old female student.
The Family Court sitting at the Magistrate Court in Aba delivered the judgment on August 5, 2026.
The case originated from a complaint filed by the victim's family regarding incidents that allegedly took place within the school premises.
Following investigation and prosecution through the criminal justice system, the court found the accused guilty on two counts: indecent as§ault and intimidating a m!nor.
He received a one-year prison sentence without the option of a fine for the first charge.
The second charge resulted in a one-year jail term with the alternative of paying ₦200,000. Both sentences will be served concurrently.
A civil society organization working on child protection issues in partnership with a child advocacy network praised the conviction as a meaningful advance for child safeguarding and the delivery of justice.
They characterised the verdict as an important development in efforts to protect vulnerable populations and ensure accountability for perpetrators of such offences.
