2027 Election, Galadima Says Nobody Knows What Will Happen

A Nigeria Democratic Congress leader, Buba Galadima, says only God and President Tinubu know what will unfold in the 2027 presidential election.

Speaking on a television programme, Galadima discussed the NDC's election preparations and its presidential pairing of Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso.

When asked about the prospect of a free and fair contest, he expressed scepticism, citing recent troubling developments involving opposition figures.

He alleged that opposition politicians and their backers had faced organised att@cks across several states, including incidents in Enugu, an episode involving Obi in Benue and an incident targeting an opposition governorship candidate in Kaduna.

Galadima said dealing with what he called criminal and fraudulent actors made certainty impossible.

Yet he remained convinced that Obi and Kwankwaso would prevail if the election proceeded transparently.

The only way they could lose, he suggested, was if government machinery was wielded to take the election from them.

Galadima chairs the strategic coordinating committee for the Obi-Kwankwaso campaign.

He described the committee's work as bringing together their separate political visions into a cohesive blueprint.

Obi brings deeper knowledge of Anambra affairs while Kwankwaso understands Kano's landscape, he said, making them complementary partners rather than competitors.

He dismissed concerns about a fractured administration, calling the ticket a healing force for Nigeria focused on restoring national unity, rebuilding public trust in government and strengthening security so citizens can go about their daily lives without fear.

Galadima also took aim at academics who publicly endorsed Tinubu but were later brought into the government, suggesting they had compromised their independence.

He added that the opposition's 2027 strategy would not necessarily demand all opposition parties unite behind a single candidate, saying different arrangements could work within existing legal frameworks.
