Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has approved promotions for 18,984 teaching and non-teaching staff of the State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, covering the January and July 2026 cycles.
The approval came after SUBEB Executive Chairman Yusuf Kabir asked for N235,116,339.09 to carry out the promotions across the state's 44 Local Government Education Authorities.
A statement on Tuesday from Sunusi Tofa, the Government House Director General of Media and Publicity, said the affected workers are those who qualify and whose promotions have already been processed.
Their salaries will also be adjusted to match the new ranks.
SUBEB said paying promotions on time helps to keep workers motivated, grow their careers and improve service in basic education.
It said about 60,000 teaching and non-teaching staff work across the 44 LGEAs, making it one of the biggest public institutions in the state.
The statement said the Yusuf administration met promotion backlogs of up to seven years, plus another backlog of one and a half years.
It said the governor had already approved and paid these, which lifted worker morale and restored their trust.
SUBEB added that it finished the needed steps for the 2026 promotions, including checking staff eligibility and working out the new salaries.
The Kano State Executive Council then backed the approval, clearing the way for the release of the money.
The government said the move shows its commitment to the welfare and career growth of public servants in basic education.
