American rapper Nicki Minaj says her Nigerian pastor is a big reason she has spoken out about the alleged persecution of Christians in Nigeria.

She spoke at a social media takeover event at Tesla’s Giga Texas facility in Austin.

She said she has ties to Nigeria through him and through her Nigerian fans.

She said she was shocked by how Christians are treated there simply for their faith.

She wondered why more people were not talking about it.

Minaj said people often avoid topics that are not seen as popular, even when they matter.

She hopes more celebrities and influencers will join in and speak up.

She said she plans to keep helping the cause.
