Police have said that the 18-month-old boy found dead in a hot vehicle in Arkansas last week was the son of a juvenile court judge, Wade Naramore.
The toddler, Thomas, died after being left unattended in a vehicle on Friday. A preliminary investigation found his death was likely due to 'excessive heat', according to police.
The Hot Springs Police Department said on Monday it was conducting a criminal investigation but said an official cause of death could not be determined until toxicology reports are concluded in the next few weeks.
It has not been determined how long Thomas had been left in the car on Friday but some reports have said it was up to four hours, according to the Arkansas Times.
Temperatures in the area that day were recorded as high as 101 degrees.
Naramore was the person who called 911, police confirmed.
Naramore, as well as his wife Ashley and their family and friends, have voluntarily come to the police department to be interviewed by detectives, police said in a statement.
Police Cpl. McCrary Means says the department has been interviewing witnesses, attempting to locate video surveillance and reviewing 911 calls and police dash-camera video and audio for the investigation.
