BREAKING News: Controversial Bill Asking Senate to Increase Fuel Price From N145 to N150 Stepped Down

The Senate has refused to consider a bill asking it to increase the suffering of Nigerians by hiking fuel price.

The Senate has stepped down consideration of the report on the National Roads Fund Establishment Bill asking the Committee on Works to make “further consultations” on it.
 
It would be recalled that Nigerians complained when the bill was made public saying it was yet another means of bringing more hardship on the people.
 
The effect of that generated serious public outcry.
 
The panel had specifically recommended multiple taxes, including a N5 levy on every litre of Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) and Automobile General Oil (diesel) imported or refined in the country.
 
Several lawmakers who spoke on the recommendations, particularly the N5 levy on petroleum products, expressed dissatisfaction. It was unanimously agreed that the panel reviewed the report.
 
12 out of the 15 members of the committee had endorsed the controversial bill which would have caused Nigerians more hardship. Senators who endorsed the report are:
 
1. Senators Gaya,
2. Clifford Ordia,
3. Barnabas Gemade,
4. Mao Ohuabunwa,
5. Bukar Abba Ibrahim,
6. Ben Murray- Bruce,
7. Gilbert Nnaji,
8. Abubakar Kyari,
9. Ibrahim Danbaba,
10. Mustapha Bukar,
11. Sani Mustapha and
12. Buruji Kashamu.
 
Those whose signatures were not appended on the report are:
 
1. Senators Olusola Adeyeye
2. Biodun Olujimi and
3. Ahmad Ogembe.
