According to a Daily Trust report, a vehicle has rammed into a group of hawkers, leaving two of them injured at a military check point on Abuja-Lokoja road last Friday.

A witness said the incident happened at about 1:47p.m. when the driver of a Honda vehicle with registration number LKJ 32 AG driving from Lokoja axis, suddenly lost control of the vehicle and drove into the hawkers.

He said the driver, after hitting the hawkers, where they were selling wares to motorists, veered into the bush.

The witness who pleaded anonymity said officials of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) took some of the injured to hospital.

According to Daily Trust, when contacted, the Abaji Unit Commander of the FRSC, Assistant Corps Commander (ACC) Olasupo Esuruoso, confirmed the incident. He said the two injured people were taken to Abaji General Hospital.

He attributed the accident to speed limit violation, loss of control and brake failure.

A reporter who visited the hospital learnt that one of the victims was referred to University of Abuja Teaching Hospital in Gwagwalada, because her condition was critical.

The commander added that a commercial cyclist was also injured in another accident which occurred in the area last Wednesday.

According to him, the accident involved a Golf vehicle with registration number BWR 68 PN. He said the cyclist was riding against traffic when he was knocked down by an oncoming vehicle.

He said the injured cyclist was also taken to Abaji General Hospital for treatment.
