Coach Jose Mourinho has praised John Mikel Obi’s performance after Chelsea’s 4-1 win over Walsall, in the Capital One Cup third round on Wednesday night. The Super Eagles midfielder started in a three-man midfield, along with Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Ramires.
"The midfield was really good. Mikel and Ramires played amazingly well," Mourinho told the Chelsea website.
He also admitted that he was surprised by the quality of their opponents, despite analysing the League One team beforehand.
"I analysed Walsall before. I was surprised with the quality of their play. They were a different team to normal in League One; not so physical, and technically fast. They were very well organised. I haven’t found a team in League One playing the quality of football that they tried to play," Mourinho said.
Mikel Obi played the entire 90 minutes and received a yellow card six minutes before the break.
Chelsea have been drawn against Stoke City in the fourth round.
