The suit against embattled journalist, Jones Abiri, was on on Monday, struck out by a magistrate court sitting in Abuja, as the court judge described his detention as a criminal intimidation.
According to PREMIUM Times, today's court judgement was following an application brought by Abiri’s lawyer, Samuel Ogala, that the court transfer Abiri’s trial to Bayelsa, since that was where he was arrested.
The federal government had arraigned Abiri, a publisher and Editor-in-Chief of Weekly Source Newspaper, before a magistrate court in Abuja, and he was being tried over allegations that he was linked to armed militancy in the Niger Delta.
Before the arraignment, he had been detained by the Department of State Security Service (DSS) for two years without trial.
