After failed attempts of the Nigerian Police and Army have failed in over-powering Boko Haram, Nigerians have taken their security into their own hands.
Boko Haram
Local hunters and the vigilante group collaborated with Nigerian soldiers and fought the members of the Boko Haram as they reclaim Mubi, a town in the Adamawa North senetorial district of Adamawa state, two weeks after the Islamic sect claimed it. The insurgents had renamed Mubi to "Madinatul Islam" which means “City of Islam”, in the bid to enforce Islamic dominance in the town and subsequently, in Adamawa state.
Mubi town
Chibado Bobi, chief of staff in Adamawa state governor’s office in Mubi confirmed that civilian vigilantes and hunters had reclaimed the commercial town. He said “It is true Mubi has fallen back into the hands of Nigerian soldiers with the help of local vigilantes and hunters. It is however too early for residents who fled to move back to Mubi because the security and vigilantes need to mop up all remnants of the group that may be lurking in nearby areas.”
