A 41-year-old man, Mr Sunday Ngwu, has been arrested by security operatives after he allegedly beat his wife to death over a marital issue that developed in their family.
 
It was gathered that Ngwu who hails from Nkanu Local Government Area of Enugu State, was said to have engaged his wife in a fight after an undisclosed issue erupted in their family on Monday Night.
 
A source said Ngwu and the wife, Amara, had been living peacefully in an apartment at Ikwo Street, Ibollo, in Idemili North Local Government Area, but on Sunday after a heated argument with his wife, both of them started fighting, leading to Mr Ngwu thoroughly beating her up.
 
The source said, “You know he is a man, so he had upper hand in the fight. But what he did which everybody disapproved of was that despite having beat her very well, he proceeded to use a heavy metal to smash her head, and almost immediately, she lost consciousness.

“We do not know what the problem between them was, and for now, the man has even been arrested by police officers from Awada Police Division,” the source said.
 
Meanwhile, the spokesperson of Anambra Police Command, SP Haruna Mohammed, has confirmed the incident, saying that the matter has been transferred to Awka with the deceased’s body deposited in a morgue.
 
He said, “On the 10/6/2019 at about 8:pm, police detectives attached to Awada Division arrested one Sunday Ngwu ‘m’ aged 41 years from Nkanu LGA of Enugu State but resides at Ikwo Street Ibollo in Idemili North LGA of Anambra State.

“Suspect allegedly beat his wife one Amara Ngwu ‘f’ aged 39 years of the same address to pulp and then used a heavy metal object to hit her on the head leaving her unconscious.

“Scene was visited by Police detectives attached to Awada Division and victim rushed to Bex hospital where she was confirmed dead on arrival by a medical doctor and corpse deposited at the mortuary for autopsy.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Mustapha Dandaura has ordered for the immediate transfer of the case to State Criminal investigation department Awka to conduct a discreet investigation in order to ascertain circumstances surrounding the incident after which suspect would be charged to court for prosecution.”
