Commissioners of Police are believed to be lobbying to head the Lagos State Police Command.

This is because the CP currently in charge of the state, Zubairu Muazu, who was deployed to Lagos in February 16, has been pencilled down for promotion alongside four others to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG).

Investigations by Daily Independent reveal that the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, had sent names of the five CPs and other senior police officers to the Police Service Commission (PSC) for consideration and promotion to the next ranks.

Daily Independent reliably learnt that the commission met on Tuesday in Abuja, but a source close to the PSC said he was not aware if the commission had received names of the senior officers.

The source close to the chairman of PSC, retired IGP Musiliu Smith, also denied discussing officers promotion.

“We did not discuss promotion. The meeting for promotion will be convened for another day,” he said.

Apart from Zubairu, the CP in charge of Kano Police Command, Ahmed Iliyasu, who was recently redeployed from Ogun State, is believed to be among those on the list for promotion.

Further investigations reveal that the CPs lobbying to replace Zubairu are talking to some politicians and power brokers in the presidency to prevail on the IGP to consider them.

Similarly, some of them are said to be lobbying former Lagos State governor, and national leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu.

According to a source, Tinubu already had a candidate, but “we don’t know if the IGP will oblige him”.

It was learnt that a CP currently serving in the Niger Delta, another in the South East, and one currently heading a command in the northern part of the country are on the list for consideration to head the Lagos command.

Meanwhile, it was reliably gathered that one of those slated for promotion to the rank of AIG is lobbying to take over zone two police command, comprising Lagos and Ogun states.

The AIG in charge of zone two, Lawal Shehu, may be on his way out.

Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Frank Mba, failed to pick calls or respond to SMS sent to his phone.
