Spokesman for the theatre said in a statement on Monday that the operation was already yielding results in the region with the arrest of the five Boko Haram logistic suppliers.
Troops arrested five Boko Haram logistic suppliers on Sunday following the commencement of Operation Positive Identification for residents of Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states.
The Nigerian Army said on Monday that the operation “is seriously ongoing” and residents of the North-East must cooperate with the troops”.
The Operation Lafiya Dole Theatre Command in Maiduguri, Borno State said the move was aimed at arresting Boko Haram and Islamic State West African Province fighters hiding in some of the communities.
The army said a valid identification means for North-East residents included the National Identification Card, permanent voter card, driving licence and passport.
Spokesman for the theatre, Col Ado Isa, said in a statement on Monday that the operation was already yielding results in the region with the arrest of the five Boko Haram logistic suppliers.
He said, “Following the commencement of Operation Positive Identification, troops have intensified the search for and arrest of all suspected criminal elements that roam parts of the North-East.
“Consequently, five key terrorists’ logistic suppliers and fighters have so far been apprehended.
“The operation is seriously ongoing across the North-East. The public is requested to cooperate with the troops by moving along with valid identification cards and present same to the troops in the efforts to rid the North-East of fleeing criminals.”
