The Ondo State Police Command, on Sunday, said it had arrested a man identified as Lawan Sale for allegedly raping a 10-year-old girl at a cattle market in Sango in the Akure North Local Government Area of the state.
The suspect, a trader, who brings cattle from the northern part of the country to sell in Akure, was said to have committed the act last Thursday, while the victim was going to school.
A source said the 50-year-old suspect was fond of having s*x with young girls in the community by allegedly using money to lure the victims.
When contacted the state Police Public Relations Officer, Femi Joseph, confirmed the incident and the arrest of the suspect, adding that investigation had commenced into the matter.
“The victim’s mother reported the matter to us and investigation has commenced into it,” the PPRO stated.
Joseph also stated that the victim had been taken to the Police Clinic, Akure, for treatment, while the case had been transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department of the command.
