Nigerians Attack Burna Boy For Saying He's The 'Best Thing Since Fela'

Nigerians have expressed divergent opinions after Burna Boy said that he's the best thing since Fela.

Grammy nominee, Burna Boy has courted controversy after claiming in a tweet that he’s the best to ever to come out of the entertainment industry in Nigeria since Late leegendary singer and Activist, Fela Anikulapo-kuti.

Burna Boy who lost out in winning an award at the 2020 Grammys, had earlier tweeted this:

"FACT! I always knew I was and I am THE BEST. Everyone you think is the best KNOWS I’m BEST since Fela Kuti. But @timayatimaya told me something a long time ago that made me not care about being the best. “The World can do without the Best” the world will still spin regardless."

A twitter user who felt this was a diss to his seniors in the industry, asked where he was when afrobeat was “crawling” between 2010-2018.

Burna Boy wrote:

"Lol. NOBODY paved shit for me. Everybody dey find them own. I bin Out here, if you knew the way they made us look weak by begging and paying the western world to like us you will see that no table was set and I’m the one that brought you the Respect you currently enjoy."
