A man accused of involuntary manslaughter after he allegedly killed a girl in a hit-and-run accident had told police he thought the girl was a deer.

A driver who killed a girl in a hit and run incident has generated controversy after he allegedly told investigators that since he is legally blind, he shouldn't be charged with a crime, police in Michigan revealed.
Eaton County Sheriff’s Office arrested Hector Arroyo, after accusing him of running over 13-year-old Helina Dirba, and fleeing from the scene. He was charged with involuntary homicide and manslaughter with a vehicle, driving while license suspended causing death and failure to stop at the scene of a crash causing injury or death.
But Arroyo had contested that his license was suspended several years ago because he is legally blind as such should not be held responsible for the girl's death.
Arroyo also told police that he thought he hit a deer, but Helina was hit while crossing a street in the crosswalk around 7:30 a.m. She was taken to a nearby hospital, where she died several days later.
If convicted, Arroyo faces up to 15 years in prison.
