There was a fire outbreak at the State Headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission office in Kano in the morning
The Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Abdullahi, confirmed the incident to The PUNCH in Kano on Thursday.
He said the fire which started about 10.30 am, on Tuesday, affected the Data Processing Centre of the INEC office and a section of the administrative department of the commission.
“Even though no life was lost but the inferno destroyed the ICT office and a block in the administrative office of the commission,” he said.
He said it was the quick intervention of the State Fire Service and Federal Fire Service as well as the Airport Fire Service that saved the fire from spreading to other parts of the building.
However, a source at the commission said when the fire started, the commission sought assistance from the Airport and Federal fire service at the Federal Secretariat.
“Although the members of staff of the commission were directed to stay by, however, Electoral Officers from local governments across the state undergoing training at the commission were asked to go home,” the source said.
