Update: Edo Community Youth Leader Remanded For Allegedly Assaulting Physically Disabled Man For Calling Him By His Name Instead Of "Chairman"

The community youth leader who was accused of assaulting a physically disabled man has been remanded by a Magistrates Court in Oredo, Edo State.

We reported that the accused, Joshua Edo, the Obazagbon community youth leader, allegedly assaulted Kingsley Ogbeni, for addressing him by his first name instead of "chairman or people's chair"

The police arraigned the accused on Tuesday, April 27, for unlawful assault, an offence that contravened Section 355 of the Criminal Code of defunct Bendel State of Nigeria as applicable in Edo State.

"That you Joshua Edo on the 24th day of April 2021, about 6.00pm at Benoni junction off Airport Road, in the Benin Magisterial District did unlawfully assaulted one Ogbeni Kingsley with a fist blow on his left eye and caused him harm and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 355 of the criminal code cap 48 volume 11 laws of defunct Bendel State of Nigeria as applicable in Edo State. " the charge reads.

Confirming the development on Wednesday April 28, human rights activist and member of Edo Civil  Society Organisations, Osazee Edigin, said they have also received numerious complaints of atrocities allegedly committed by the accused.

"This is Joshua Edo the molester of the physically challenge man in police station yesterday night having being remanded by a magistrate court. He is the youth leader of Obazagbon community. We have been receiving numerous complaints of his atrocities in Obazagbon. If you have any of such inhuman experience with him, contact Barrister Jefferson Uwoghiren or any of us with your evidences. This type of person cannot be allowed to flourish in Benin kingdom so as not to return to the state of nature." he wrote.
