300 Corps Members In Plateau Sign Petition For Relocation Over Killings

Members of the National Youth Service Corps currently serving in Plateau State have started a petition to the Director-General of the scheme, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim, to relocate them to other states.

The petition, which was started by one Sandra C, noted that corps members no longer feel safe in the state seeking a relocation plan.

It was titled, “Appeal to DG on the relocation of Plateau corpers based on insecurity.”

The petition set out to gather 500 signatures have about 311 signatories barely 24 hours after.

A post attached to the petition reads, “Due to the latest insecurity occurrence in Plateau Jos most especially Jos north. We implore the Director-General to please help get Plateau corpers relocated most especially those in Jos North and its environs based on insecurity.

“This petition will help corp members have a peaceful service year without fear of threat to life.”

The development comes amid the tension in the state trailing the attacks and counter-attacks on defenceless people in the state.

On Saturday, August 14, some travellers were killed by gunmen in the Jos North Local Government Area of the state.

The sojourners were returning from Bauchi State where they attended an event to commemorate the Islamic New Year when they ran into gunmen who opened fire on them.

Also on Tuesday, suspected murderous Fulani herders invaded the Yelwan Zangam community and launched a deadly assault on the people situated in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.

A resident of the area said vigilante members had reported recovering 37 bodies, with many of them burnt beyond recognition.
