The Commander of a group of local hunters in Wuro Barka community in Mubi North Local Government Area Adamawa State, Nuhu Inuwa, has allegedly instigated a crowd of people to kill and burn a woman in the neighbourhood, Mrs Rejoice Zira.

Nuhu Inuwa and an alleged accomplice, Samaila Luka are currently being prosecuted for the alleged offence.

The Police Officer in charge of the case, Inspector Zakka Musa, told the Chief Magistrate Court I in Yola that the defendants had instigated miscreants who beat up Mrs Rejoice Zira and burnt her to ashes.

The prosecutor said in his First Information Report (FIR) that the miscreants murdered the 50-year-old woman on the orders of the defendants who had accused her of witchcraft.

The FIR said the defendants had accused the deceased of being behind the death of one Dimas Dink in an accident along Yola-Mubi road on March 3, 2023.

The defendant and some other indigenes of the community also claimed Mrs Rejoice had caused the accident through witchcraft.

DAILY POST gathered that when the news of the death of Dimas broke, the mob who was allegedly instigated by the defendants and others now at large, went to the house of Rejoice Zira, beat her into a comma and set her ablaze.

The Chief Magistrate, Muhammed Buba ordered the remand of Inuwa and Samaila Luka over the allegations, which according to the Prosecution Counsel, contravened sections 60 and 191 of the penal code law.

On their arraignment in court, the defendants pleaded not guilty, insisting that they did not instigate anybody to kill the woman, but heard the shouting of a mob and smoke from the woman’s house on a fateful day, being her neighbours.

The presiding judge adjourned the matter to April 17, 2023, when the prosecution is expected to have transmitted the case diary to the state director of public prosecution for legal advice.
