Kashim Shettima
Nigeria's Vice President, Kashim Shettima, presided over the National Economic Council (NEC) meeting on Thursday, September 28.
The NEC meeting was held inside the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The NEC is constitutionally headed by Vice President Kashim Shettima, with State governors, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, amongst others as members.
The NEC was established by the provisions of the Constitution of the FRN, 1999, as amended; Section 153(1) and Paragraphs 18 & 19 of Part I of the Third Schedule
The NEC meets monthly and has the mandate to advise the President concerning the economic affairs of the Federation, and in particular on measures necessary for the coordination of the economic planning efforts or economic programmes of the various Governments of the Federation.
There are expectations that issues to be discussed at the week’s NEC meeting may border on the current economic challenges in the country occasioned by the removal of the petrol subsidy.
Also expected to be discussed are security challenges across the country, with recent attacks in some parts of the North.
