The bereaved family of pregnant lawyer, Raheem Bolanle, who was shot dead by a trigger-happy Police officer, Vandi Dramdi on 25 December has reacted to the judgement of the Lagos State High Court.
Recall that Justice Ibironke Harrison of a Lagos High Court on Monday found the ex-Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Darambi Vandi, guilty on a one-count charge of murder and sentenced him to death by hanging for the death of Omobolanle Raheem at the Ajah underbridge checkpoint on December 25, 2022.
The judge pronounced: “The court finds the defendant guilty on one count of murder. You will be hanged by the neck till you are dead.”
Speaking on behalf of the Raheem family, the lawyer, Olakitan Agbaje told BBC that the family is satisfied with the judgement.
She said although the family understand that their loved one will not come back, they are satisfied to know that the person who caused her death is behind the bar and will face the punishment for his offence.
She said, “The incident of 25 December 2022 will forever remain a tragedy to the Raheem family because it changed many people’s lives, the life of her husband, daughter and many people who love her.
“However justice has happened, within the period of 10 months, Justice Harrison delivered her judgement and the accused have been sentenced to death by hanging and we believe that this is the step to reduce the pain on the family members.”
