In what will come across as a really tragic development, a man has been killed in a terrible manner in Delta.
Indeed, it was a tragic scene to behold along Deco Road in Warri, Delta State on Wednesday evening as a heavy-duty 12-tyre truck reportedly crushed the middle-aged man to death in the presence of his wife and in front of their residence.
PUNCH Metro reports that the man and his wife were returning from an outing from the Okumagba Estate axis of the road and were in the process of crossing to their residence located opposite the bypass after alighting from a commercial tricycle (keke) when the ill-fated truck crushed the man to death.
Witnesses said that the driver of the truck was negotiating the bypass when the left side of the back tyres hit the unsuspecting man, climbed him, and smashed his head and upper region of his body to pieces in the process.
“It was indeed a gory site to behold as the smashed head and upper region of the man were trapped between the left side of the back tyres of the heavy-duty truck”, one of the witnesses told journalists.
According to the witness, the back tyres of the truck had to be lifted with a giant jack before the pieces of the dead man could be brought out of the scene.
The wife of the man who was said to have crossed over the road to their residence before the bizarre incident occurred reportedly fainted immediately when she saw the gory image.
Also, the little children of the deceased man were reportedly prevented from witnessing the badly mangled lifeless body of their father as retrieved from under the heavy-duty truck.
When journalists arrived at the scene of the accident, residents and passers-by were seen discussing the incident in a painful mood.
The Police Public Relations Officer for Delta Police Command, DSP Bright Edafe, confirmed the unfortunate incident.
