The killing of an unidentified man who was accused of stealing a motorcycle in the Akwanga area of Nasarawa state, has been confirmed by the Nasarawa State Police Command.
DAILY POST reports that an irate mob on Friday lynched the man over an allegation of motorcycle theft in the A.A Koto area of Akwanga.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Ramhan Nansel, confirmed the incident in a statement made available to DAILY POST on Friday, stating that the Commissioner of Police had ordered a thorough investigation into the case.
“At about 9:20 am on October 20, 2023, information was received that a mob was attacking an unidentified man in the A.A. Koto area of Akwanga.
“Upon receipt of the information, policemen raced to the scene, and upon sighting the policemen, the mob dispersed.
“The corpse of one unidentified person was found lying in a pool of blood. He was rushed to the General Hospital Akangwa where he was confirmed dead and subsequently deposited at the morgue.
“It was alleged that the victim was accused of stealing a Bajaj motorcycle, but we are yet to prove that. An investigation is ongoing,” he said.
Nansel called on the public to desist from taking laws into their own hands and avoid jungle justice, as anyone caught will face the full weight of the law.
“We call on members of the public to stop taking laws into their own hands. They should avoid jungle justice as anyone found or caught will be made to face the full weight of the law,” the statement warned.
