According to constitutional Lawyer, Professor Itse Sagay, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan may be called to answer charges if the anti-corruption panel instituted by Buhari links any misappropriation of state funds to him in its ongoing investigations.
Goodluck Ebele Jonathan
No former Nigerian President had ever been charged to court concerning his management of the country's treasury while in power but the President Muhammadu Buhari's defiant stand against grant may break the jinx.
Former President Goodluck Jonathan may soon be invited by anti-graft agencies namely the Economic and Financial Crimes Comission, EFCC and the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission, ICPC.
Here are 3 reasons why former President Jonathan may be invited:
1. To clear his name:
Everyday a new scam dating back to the Goodluck Jonathan administration gets announced. New figures are bandied around frequently and former aides of the President under threat of arrest. The former President may have to visit anti-graft agencies to clear his name.
2. To Prove that nobody is above the law:
If a former President is dragged before anti-graft agencies, President Muhammadu Buhari would have sent a very strong message to the corrupt elites - YOU ARE NOT ABOVE THE LAW!
3. To score political points:
Dragging former President Jonathan before anti-graft agencies will improve public faith in President Buhari's anti-corruption fight.
