Nasiru Mohammed Anka, a lecturer with Zamfara State College of Education, Maru (COE) has been killed by bandits after collecting N2 million ransom from his family.
It was gathered that the lecturer was abducted alongside other residents three weeks ago in Maru town, Maru Local Government Area of the state.
According to reports, a woman who escaped weeks from the bandits' camp after being in captivity said the lecturer was killed in her presence.
The victim said she summoned courage and escaped from the bandits den when they were all drunk and fell asleep.
She added that the two days after the lecturer’s death the bandit tried to remove some of his sensitive body parts, but the corpse was already decomposed so they decided to leave it.
“After several blows on his head with guns and other punishment, he couldn’t survive it so he died,” the woman told TVC News.
“The bandits kept telling him that his people have money if they love him they should bring the money or they kill him, and that was how they killed him after collecting the two million Naira that they claimed was not enough or up to their target,” she added.
His funeral prayer (Salatul Gha'ib) was hold on Monday, December 18, 2023, by 12:30pm at Gida Dari, Gusau.
Meanwhile, students and lecturers of the institution have taken to Facebook to mourn him.
One Bello Muhammad Dogon Kade, wrote: “On a sad note, I announce the demise of our colleague Malam Nasiru Muhammad Anka (lecturer at COE Maru) who was abducted by bandits and was killed by them after payment of two millions naira as ransom. The bitter part of it is we came to know about the death today from a fortunately rescued woman who said he died for more than ten days back. Allahu Akbar may Allah accept his shahada. His Salatul Gha'ib (funeral prayer) is arranged to hold at Gida Dari by 12:30pm tomorrow 18/12/23. Inna lillahi wa Inna ilaihi raji'un, Hasbunallah wa ni'imal wakil, La'ilaha illa anta subhanaka inni kuntum minazzalimin.”
