Shehu Sani has warned President Bola Tinubu.

According to the former Kaduna Central Senator in a statement on Monday, the protest by some residents of Minna in Niger State over hardship was a message to the Federal Government to address the poverty rate in Nigeria.

Sani said the protest was within the armbit of the law, stressing that some European countries had protested against the high cost of living in their cities.

Posting on X, Sani wrote: “The protest in Minna, Niger State against the high cost of living falls within the ambit of the right to peaceful dissent. Protests against the cost of living were also done in other European cities experiencing economic pains.

“The protest is simply a message and a call for immediate and impactful measures to address the problems of the epidemic of poverty in the country.”

We had reported that angry youths and women in their numbers staged a protest over the current economic hardship being experienced in Minna.

The protesters who barricaded the Minna-Bida Road at Kpakungu at about 7.30am, hinged current hardship to fuel subsidy removal by the federal government.

It was gathered they also decried the continuous hike in the price of food items and other essential needs of livelihood in the country.

But addressing the protesters, the state Deputy Governor, Yakubu Garba said the State Government was very much aware of the economic hardship faced by its citizens, urging them to remain calm as modalities have been put in place to ease their suffering.
