A 27-year-old man, Wahab Saburi has been arrested by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, (NSCDC) Osun State Command for motorcycle theft at Oke Ala in Ede town.
The suspect who hails from Ede, allegedly specializes in snatching and dispossessing motorcycle owners with a master key.
The State Commandant of Osun NSCDC, Michael Adaralewa, confirmed the arrest to newsmen in Osogbo on Wednesday, May 15, 2024.
He said the suspect was arrested on May 11, 2024, in the Oke-Ola area of Ede by NSCDC personnel who acted on intelligence.
Adaralewa said the investigation revealed that whenever he stole a motorcycle, he kept it in his room at Obada Street Agate, Ede.
During interrogation, the suspect said he started stealing motorcycles about three years ago and on the day he was arrested, he stole a motorcycle parked in front of an apartment at Oke-Ola, Ede.
He said he used a particular key to unlock the motorcycle.
Discrete investigation revealed that he had four stolen motorcycles in his room which he allegedly stole at Agip area, Ayo–Omoba, Obada, and Ede.
According to the suspect, he sells the stolen items to his buyers at the rate of Forty-Thousand Naira only (N40,000).
“The suspect further confessed that he has someone in a popular market in Ede, Osun State, who prepares sales agreement papers for him, which he, thereafter, gives to whoever buys the stolen motorcycles from him,” the Commandant said.
The Commandant, however, assured members of the public that all accomplices to the crime would be made to face the full wrath of the law in due course. The corps shall continue to smoke out criminally minded people out of the state.
He said the suspect would soon be charged to court after the investigation is concluded.
