On Saturday, Nigerian Army personnel in Aba, Abia State, stormed the streets to express their anger following the killing of a soldier by unidentified attackers in the area.
SaharaReporters reports that the soldier was killed and his colleague wounded late Friday evening while they went out outside their barracks.
The incident, it was gathered, happened around Milverton Avenue leading to Aba main park.
As a result of the anger of the military therefore, there was pandemonium in the area as shops closed for fear of victimisation.
The mission of the soldiers at that area infested with sex workers could not be immediately ascertained.
Confirming the incident, the Chief Press Secretary, CPS to the state governor, Kazie Uko said "I have spoken to the Army Commander and our Homeland security person. They said that this situation has to be brought under control and that nobody is molesting anybody.
"I think it the spur of the moment, particularly when it involves the army. Even without being told, people on their own began to run away. So, the Brigade Commander and the Home Security people are on ground and they said everybody is going about their business and that they have been able to restore calm around that Milverton road axis", stating that according to the Brigade Commander, only one soldier was killed while the other person was in the hospital.
All efforts to contact the army spokesperson in the state as well as the Commissioner of Police proved abortive as they did not pick the calls put across to them.
