Reps Public Petitions Summon Petroleum Minister, Mele Kyari Over $72 Million

The House of Representatives Committee on Public Petitions has called upon Mele Kyari, the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), to address allegations regarding a $72 million claim made by an indigenous oil services provider.

The oil company, De Coon Limited, petitioned the Reps Committee after efforts to retrieve the fund proved abortive.

In a summons letter sighted by Daily Post on Thursday in Abuja, dated Monday, the NNPC CEO was invited by the Committee alongside the CEO of Onado Nigeria Limited, Obiageli Okeke, and key staff of Nigeria Agip Oil Company.

Also summoned to testify are key officials of the Federal Ministry of Petroleum, including the Minister and the Permanent Secretary.

Others summoned include the Group CEO of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), NNPCL Staff, including Mr. Momodu Mohammed (Team Lead GRC), NAPIMS, Mr. Kanayo Odor, Mr. Salisu Bakaro, Mr. Lanre Richard, Engr Mohammed Ismailia; the Executive Secretary, Nigeria Content Development and Monitoring Board, and the Managing Director of Total E&P Nigeria.

The summons reads in part, “You are hereby required to note sections 88 and 89(c) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) and appear in person before this committee on Thursday, June 20, 2024 at 2:00 pm or as soon thereafter as the committee shall direct.”
