No fewer than six people were confirmed dead and as many as seven others were seriously injured in an auto crash at Sabon Garin Takanebu in Miga Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
The spokesperson of the State Police Command, DSP Lawan Adam, who confirmed the incident in a statement on Thursday, June 13, 2024, said the crash happened on Wednesday at Sabon Garin Takanebu, Miga LGA, when the driver of a Mitsubishi Canter with number plate XA 519 KUR, lost control and ran into traders at a market.
“The incident happened when the driver, on reaching Sabon Gari Market, lost control and ran into traders, as a result of which 10 persons sustained various degrees of injuries while three died on the spot,” the statement read.
“A team of policemen rushed to the scene and conveyed the corpses and the injured to the Jahun General Hospital
“However, three additional persons also died on the way to the hospital. They were confirmed dead by a medical doctor, bringing the total number of deaths to six, while the remaining seven victims are currently receiving treatment at the hospital.”
The PPRO said the corpses have been released to their relatives for proper burial.
He added that investigation is in progress to ascertain the cause of the accident.
Lawan said the state Commissioner of Police, A.T. Abdullahi, had extended his condolences to the deceased families and pleaded with motorists to drive carefully, as anyone caught driving recklessly would be arrested and prosecuted.
