Severe rain and strong winds resulted in the tragic death of a 7-year-old boy in Tsohon Garin Nangere, located in Nangere Local Government Area of Yobe State.
Reports emerging from the community indicated that 20 people were seriously injured, while about 50 houses and shops were destroyed by the heavy rain.
The incident occurred today at about 9 AM when residents were going about their daily activities.
This comes as the Yobe Emergency Management Agency, in partnership with Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL), commenced a state-level workshop on community engagement and sensitization on flood preparedness and the development of the 2024 emergency preparedness and contingency plan.
The objective of the engagement is to, among other things, share local response mechanisms, link the community-based strategy to state-level efforts, and develop a community-based emergency preparedness and contingency plan.
