On Friday, suspected armed robbers ambushed the Warri-Sapele highway in Delta State, indiscriminately robbing travellers of their money and valuables.
PUNCH Metro reports that the hoodlums operated on the road between 6:30 to 8:30 pm., during which some travellers were injured and their belongings forcefully collected.
According to sources, one Elume boy who made spirited efforts to run away from the robbery scene was shot by the hoodlums.
He was reportedly rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was confirmed dead on arrival.
Also, some other persons who sustained injuries at the robbery scene were taken to Oghara Teaching Hospital for treatment.
It was further gathered that robbery incidents have become a regular occurrence on the road, especially at night, as soon as police patrol operatives leave their checkpoints and robbery suspects take over the road.
“It’s almost becoming a daily affair”, the source stated.
When contacted, the Delta Police Command Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident.
“We are aware, and the DPO and his men swiftly went there. The armed robbers, however, escaped into the bush. But we are on their trail,” the PPRO stated.
