Five residents were on Monday morning, abducted by suspected kidnappers in the Kwali Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory.
During the operation, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Musa Majaga, was shot.
A local resident named Abdullahi told Daily Trust that the kidnappers invaded Majaga's house around 12:23 am, smashing through the burglary-proof windows to gain entry. They shot Majaga and abducted two of his children.
"After taking two of his children, they proceeded to another apartment and kidnapped three other neighbors," Abdullahi said.
A member of the local vigilante group, speaking on condition of anonymity, noted that the kidnappers exploited a shortage of cartridges among the vigilantes.
"The kidnappers struck after learning that our vigilantes were low on cartridges. This is the first kidnapping incident we've had in Yangoji in the past five months," the vigilante member explained.
Alhaji Majaga, who sustained a gunshot wound to the leg, has been taken to a private hospital in Gwagwalada for treatment. Authorities are currently investigating the incident and working to secure the release of the kidnapped individuals.
