The state Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Jamiu Alli-Balogun, stated this while speaking to NAN on Monday.

Lagos State Government has stated that its ban on flogging students at schools is still effective.

According to the government, it still does not accept corporal punishment in public schools.

Instead, the government is insisting on counselling as an effective correctional measure.

The state Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Jamiu Alli-Balogun, stated this while speaking to NAN on Monday.

Alli-Balogun reiterated that flogging students remained prohibited.

He said: “There is a policy here in Lagos and other parts of the country prohibiting teachers from giving corporal punishment to students/pupils.

“Against flogging of students, we have adopted counselling as a measure of correction.”

Alli-Balogun further stated that other forms of punishments such as kneeling, picking up dirt, and cutting grass within the school premises could also be applied.

The Lagos State Government banned corporal punishment in 2022.

It implemented the Safeguarding and Child Protection Programme in school that year.
