Galadima accused the Tinubu administration of unfair treatment of both Kwankwaso and the NNPP.
Buba Galadima has revealed why Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the NNPP's 2023 presidential candidate will not join forces with President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general election.
Recall that Galadima is a prominent figure in the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday, August 18, Galadima accused the Tinubu administration of unfair treatment of both Kwankwaso and the NNPP.
He specifically cited the federal government’s alleged backing of dethroned Emir Aminu Ado-Bayero against Muhammadu Sanusi II, who was reinstated by the Kano State government.
“How can Kwankwaso be a friend of the APC with what they are doing to us in Kano? Appointing two emirs in one town?” Galadima asked, criticizing the deployment of federal security forces to protect Ado-Bayero while, according to him, insecurity persists across Kano communities.
The NNPP chieftain insisted that his party will play a decisive role in the 2027 elections, declaring, “We are the people who will determine who will be the president of Nigeria in 2027.”
Kano’s emirate has been at the center of political and royal tussles for more than a decade. Sanusi, a former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), replaced Ado-Bayero in 2014 but was deposed in 2020 by then-governor Abdullahi Ganduje. He was reinstated by Governor Abba Yusuf in May 2024, sparking legal and political disputes.
Galadima argued that the federal high court has no jurisdiction over traditional matters, accusing the Tinubu government of using security agencies to destabilize Kano and shield Ado-Bayero for political advantage ahead of 2027. He maintained that no Nigerian monarch has ever determined the country’s presidential outcome and dismissed claims that Kwankwaso is considering aligning with the APC.
“Let anybody come out and tell me that he met Kwankwaso and persuaded him to join the APC. He is the strongest political iroko in this country today because he dared the APC and defeated them in Kano,” Galadima declared.
