When interrogated, the first suspect, 50-year-old farmer Bello Usman, gave a chilling account of what led to the mob action.

Three persons have been arrested for allegedly be@ting a 60-year-old woman, Dudu Umaru, to de@th over witchcraft claims.

The sad incident happened in Digino in Fufore Local Government Area of Adamawa state on August 26.

The suspects said to be the deceased woman's younger brother, his son, and her nephew, stormed her home and accused her of casting a spell on a teenage girl named Aisha. They descended on her leaving her with serious injuries. She later d!ed from the injuries she sustained during the attack.

Confirming the incident to newsmen, the spokesperson of the command, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, said

“Three men were arrested for the act and they have confessed that they are guilty of the incident that was reported. They claimed to only be@t her with sticks without any intention of k!lling her and burnt her house. The eldest amongst them is the deceased’s younger brother, together with his son and his nephew. They claimed the woman was a witch who wanted to kill his daughter. That is why they went to her house to be@t her up, leading to her de@th”

When interrogated, the first suspect, 50-year-old farmer Bello Usman, gave a chilling account of what led to the mob action. He explained that his daughter, Aisha, had fallen ill and that traditional medication he gave her seemed to point fingers at Dudu.

“Dudu is my uncle’s daughter. She held my daughter with w!tchcraft for a few weeks. I gave her traditional medication, and after she took it, she started calling Dudu’s name, saying Dudu wanted to kill her. Upon hearing that from my daughter, I became furious. I went to her house with my son and nephew. We beat her up with a stick and left her unconscious on the ground. Later, I heard she was confirmed dead after we were arrested.”

When asked why he relied on traditional rituals rather than seeking medical help, Bello admitted:

“I did traditional incantations on a medication and gave it to my daughter. She started calling Dudu’s name. I didn’t take her to any hospital.”

He expressed deep regret over the incident.

“Since the day I was arrested, I have not heard from my family again, so I don’t know about my daughter’s health. I was afraid of losing her, that was why I took that drastic decision. But I regret my actions now, knowing Dudu is my cousin.”
